A delegation of the Association of Small Business Entrepreneurs (NASE) from Japan in Sri Lanka for a survey mission was impressed yesterday with procedures and practices adopted by Kelani Cables. The delegation consists of 15 member team of SME sector in Japan.
The NASE delegation was taken to inspect Kelani Cables as a model company which adopts 5 S Concept, Kaizen and Lean methods successfully.
Kelani Cables CEO, Director Mahinda Saranapala briefed the delegation on the rapid success of the Rs 6 billion company and their target converting it into an Rs 9 billion company by 2017/2018. Kelani Cables had recorded a profit of Rs 499 million with only 480 employees, he said.
The main purpose of the delegation’s visit is to help the SMEs in the Asian region to go to other countries by entering into joint ventures and increasing exports. The government of Japan was backing the delegation for this purpose, Saranapala said.
The delegation from small and medium industries of Japan has come to Sri Lanka to see the possibility as to how Japan can help the mercantile sector and improve ties between Japan and Sri Lanka, said Chandana S Amaratunga, Vice President JASTECA.
The delegation will have three visits apart from Kelani Cables to Lanka Walltiles Meepe and Ceylon Knit Trend Eheliyagoda. JASTECA had also invited top entrepreneurs who were their members for a seminar and discussion yesterday. By meeting this delegation they can explore business deals with Japan, he said.
