Belgium to expand trade ties with Lanka

Two-way trade between Sri Lanka and Belgium is below its potential and to address this issue, both countries need to mull more business partnerships to better reap emerging opportunities, Belgium’s Ambassador to India Jan Luykx said.

While expressing optimism on the country’s business climate and the prospect of doing business in Sri Lanka, he noted that relations between Sri Lanka and Belgium are excellent and said there is huge scope for expansion of trade ties between Sri Lanka and Belgium.

He made these views speaking at the Business to Business meeting held in Colombo recently between a high powered business delegation from Belgium and Sri Lankan business community.

People to people movement and more B2B meetings will create much needed commercial ties between the two nations, he said adding that interactions are increasing in terms of visits and Belgium is increasingly becoming one of the key suppliers of high end tourists to Sri Lanka.

Belgium is 12th largest trading nation in the world and accounts for two percent of the world trade.
