Bourse dips on monetary tightening – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a positive note this week with ASPI increasing by 244.02 points (or 3.05%) to close at 8,240.06 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also increased by 60.73 points (or 2.03%) to close at 3,051.64 points.

Expolanka was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 7.06Bn or 33.34% of total turnover value. Browns Investments followed suit, accounting for 9.17% of turnover (value of LKR 1.94Bn) while LOLC Finance contributed LKR 1.42Bn to account for 6.72% of the week’s turnover.

Total turnover value amounted to LKR 21.19 Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 17.99 Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 4.24Bn (17.79% W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 3.60Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, increased by 3.11% W-o-W (or LKR 110.77 Bn) to LKR 3,667.84 Bn cf. LKR 3,557.08 Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

Transportation Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value, accounting for 33.81% (or LKR 7.16Bn) of market turnover. Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Expolanka which accounted for 98.61% of the sector’s total turnover. Diversified Financials Industry Group meanwhile accounted for 16.34% of the total turnover value while Capital Goods Industry Group contributed 15.33% to the weekly turnover.

The Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume, accounting for 30.97% (or 322.23 Mn shares) of total volume, with a value contribution of LKR 2.67Bn. The Diversified Financials Industry Group followed suit, adding 22.63% to total volume (235.40 Mn shares) while Capital Goods Industry Group contributed 12.85% (133.69 Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.

Net Foreign Position

Foreign investors were net sellers this week with a total net outflow amounting to LKR 0.36 Bn relative to last week’s total net outflow of LKR 1.29 Bn (72.30% W-o-W). Total foreign purchases increased by 124.90% W-o-W to LKR 0.65Bn from last week’s value of LKR 0.29Bn, while total foreign sales amounted to LKR 1.01Bn relative to LKR 1.57Bn recorded last week (-36.10% W-o-W).
