ASPI inches towards 8,500 levels whilst turnover crosses Rs. 10 bn

Colombo bourse observed a heavy buying spree yesterday where the enthusiastic local appetite pushed the market turnovers to touch new highs after February 1, 2021, surpassing LKR 10 billion.

The main indexes too witnessed a continuous upward trend where, the All Share Price Index rose by239.6 points (+2.9%) to close at 8,479.7 whilst the S&P SL20 Index also increased by 96.5 points (+3.2%) to close the day at 3,148.2.

Expolanka Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Browns Investments, Vallibel One and Ambeon Holdings remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at LKR 10,802.4 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of LKR 3,444.9 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 398,733.6 k against the 12-month average daily volume of 192,402.9 k. Transportation, Capital Goods, Diversified Financials and Materials sectors mostly contributed to the day’s turnover.

The top traded counters for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings LKR 4,030.1 mn (+20.7%), Browns Investments LKR 1,143.6 mn (+10.0%), LOLC Holdings LKR750.4 mn (+8.7%),Royal Ceramics LKR 670.8 mn (+9.3%) and Hayleys Fabric LKR 339.9 mn (+7.1%).

Foreigners were net sellers yesterday recording an outflow of LKR 374.2 mn during the day. Foreign purchases stood at LK 396.9 mn which were approximately witnessed in Cargills Ceylon, Three Acre Farms, Citizen Development Bank (Non-Voting) and Richard Pieris whilst total foreign sales amounted to LKR 771.1 mn, assumed to be seen in Hemas Holdings, Expolanka Holdings, Tokyo Cement (Non-Voting), LOFC Finance and Dialog Axiata. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in BPPL Holdings and Sanasa Development Bank yesterday.

Browns Investments, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), Expolanka Holdings, LOLC Finance and Royal Ceramics were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday. (Courtesy Softlogic Stock Brokers)
