Sri Lanka Tourism to continue nature interpretation training in national parks

Sri Lanka Tourism in collaboration with the Federation of Environmental Organisations (FEO) and the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC), successfully concluded Nature Interpretation Training for Jeep Drivers at the Minneriya and Kaudulla National Parks last year, while looking forward in continuing the same at the Yala National Park this year.

These programs are designed to educate jeep drivers on the importance of natural fauna and flora and especially on the importance of maintaining park discipline to reduce the frequent negative comments made by visitors.

The program was conducted by Dr. Sumith Pilapitiya, (Former Director-General of the Department of Wildlife Conservation and Elephant Researcher), Nishad Wijethunga, (Committee Member of the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators - SLAITO), Neranjana Gunetilleke (Historian) and Rahula Perera (Conservation Scientist and Nature Interpreter).

Over 1,100 safari jeep drivers were trained with the active participation of the Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) Officials and the Wardens of Minneriya and Kaudulla Parks last year.
