Accordingly, Lanka Ceramic Managing Director Mahendra Jayasekara granted a financial donation to HelpAge to perform 110 medical screenings, 119 eye screenings, 12 cataract surgeries and also to provide 92 bifocal spectacles and 14 reading glasses. The Cataract surgeries would be performed at the HelpAge Eye Hospital in Wellawatta. (Opposite the Savoy cinema). HelpAge Sri Lanka is a Not for Profit Charitable Organization that works to resolve the social, medical and low vision issues faced by destitute Sri Lankan elderly citizens. MD, Jayasekara highlighted that Lanka Ceramic has always been helping needy citizens in the country to improve their health conditions and social activities. Lanka Ceramic, General Manager Kamal Kudahetti, stressed the importance of performing Cataract surgeries to less privileged elderly citizens through the company CSR initiative, considering the high cost of these surgeries. HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge, highly admired Lanka Ceramic for helping to make this invaluable donation to improve the vision of a needy section in our society.

He said there is a marked improvement in donations made by people and also organizations, towards the free cataract surgery program which has successfully completed more than 36,000 free Cataract surgeries at the HelpAge Eye Hospital during the past 18 years.
