CIC’s Agri Holiday Resort promotes Agro Tourism

Windsor Park, CIC’s Agri Holiday Resort is aggressively promoting Agri Tourism for both local and foreign tourists.

The resort which is situated in a 1,380 acre agriculture farm, includes Paddy cultivation and a Drying Processing facility, paddy husk charcoal production plant, dairy, commercial vegetable cultivation, banana, mango, guava, papaya, ata (custard apple) and wood apple plantation, plant Nursery, home garden, machinery yard and a compost production facility.

In addition, the CIC Seed production Farm, the largest in Sri Lanka, is also located at the resort premises.

“CIC Seed Farm adopts modern agricultural techniques and enhanced mechanization, while protecting our traditional knowledge as well as conventional agricultural methods,” said CIC Head of Operation Jagath Bopage.

All tourists’ locals are taken on a free educational tour across the 1,400 acre farmland and given knowledge of the plantation of fruits such as paddy cultivation.

The first impression that a visitor gets upon arriving at the CIC Agri Holiday Resort situated amid a vast land of mango plantation is the aroma of bees’ honey. “This is due bee keeping in the farm to produce and acquire bee’s honey.”

The Lotus tank on a 12 acre land was first built during ancient times and modernized to provide irrigated water to the Agri plantation, while this too is a major attraction and a place to relax for visitors.

He opined that the Ministry of Tourism should actively promote Agri Tourism, especially to Europe as it’s a high revenue generating segment.

Hotel Manager Kamal Ambagaspitiya said that the resort offering seven air-conditioned Cabanas (including two family apartments), is on an 8 acre block, also has a free Wifi Cable TV, swimming pool and bar, kids’ corner, large restaurant and a banquet hall in a bid to offer MICE facilities.

“Tourists also get the opportunity to participate in a cooking demonstration and also to cycle around the farm which are very popular attractions.”

Guests on the ‘Farm Agri tour’ are transported by a tractor converted tourist air conditioned coach which is another attraction at the resort.

The resort is very popular among German, French, Italian, Netherland and Chinese tourists.

The Resort is also now gaining in popularity as a stop over to visit the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, Kavudulla National Park, Seruwawilla and Somawathiya and other places of historic interest.
