ASPI and S&P SL 20 Index continue increasing trend

 The All Share Price Index (ASPI) during the week ended July 26 increased by 2.76 per cent to 5,872.9 points and the S&P SL 20 Index increased by 5.92 per cent to 2,925.5 points, compared to the previous week.

The year-on-year NCPI headline inflation decreased to 2.1 per cent in June 2019 from 3.5 per cent in May 2019. The month on month change of the NCPI increased by 0.4 per cent in June 2019 due to increase in the prices of the items in both Food and Non-food categories.

Weekly AWPR for the week ending July 26, 2019 remained at 10.84 %, unchanged from the previous week. The reserve money decreased compared to the previous week mainly due to the decrease in currency in circulation and deposits held by the commercial banks with CBSL.

The total outstanding market liquidity was a surplus of Rs. 46.32 bn by end of the week, compared to a surplus of Rs. 31.41 billionn by the end of last week. During the year up to July 26 2019 the Sri Lanka rupee appreciated against the US dollar (3.7 per cent).

Given the cross currency exchange rate movements, the Sri Lanka rupee appreciated against the pound sterling (5.7 per cent), Japanese yen (2.0 per cent), the euro (6.4 per cent) and the Indian rupee (2.5 per cent) during this period.
