SL Ports Authority fetes their women workers

Presentation of a memento by the SLPA Chairman, General Daya Ratnayake to I.H.D. Mallika for service in the Sri Lanka Ports Authority for 38 years.

The Women’s Day celebration organized by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) to coincide with the International Women’s Day was held on 08.03.2021 at the Lalith Athulathmudali Auditorium of the Mahapola Ports and Maritime Academy (MPMA) of SLPA.

The event was held under the patronage of the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), General Daya Ratnayake. At the event the longest-serving woman staff member of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority I.H.D. Mallika was presented with a memento in recognition of her service, as well as a service evaluation. In appreciation of their service, female mobile crane operators of SLPA were also commended and presented with mementoes.

Veteran actor Mr. Jackson Anthony delivered the keynote address at the occasion, which focused on the appreciation of women employees and staff members who encouraged towards the success of SLPA, the heart of the nation. Addressing the event, he said that he was pleased to have an occasion created to speak about women. He further said that Sri Lankan society inherited a proud culture of motherhood and had made a strong contribution to society by making Sri Lankan women family-centric.

Addressing the Women’s Day celebration of SLPA, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), General Daya Ratnayake said that the world’s first woman Prime Minister and also the world’s first woman Executive President were from Sri Lanka. “We are a nation that has always given priority to women. Women are always committed to making a strong contribution to the family and society in the role of women in Sri Lankan society as a mother, wife, sister, and in a number of other spheres that shoulder the socio-economic and socio-cultural development of the country,” he said.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority’s (SLPA) Additional Managing Director (Ports Operations) - Upul Jayatissa, Director (Finance) - Shirani Wanniarachchi, Director (Human Resources and Development) - Nalin Aponso, Chairperson of the ‘Seva Vanitha Unit - Damayanthi Ratnayake graced the occasion. The event was also attended by a number of senior officials, staff members, and employees representing all divisions of SLPA.
