
With the Bandaranaike International Airport, Katunayake being re-opened to welcome foreign tourists, the airport management had to act fast and implement a host of changes at the Arrivals Section.
The new situation required to manage arrivals through the mandatory processes whilst adhering to the new safety protocols and processes. Procuring the means for providing safe, toilet facilities for arriving tourists, within a short time was a major challenge faced by the airport management. ‘Harpic Mission Wellbeing’ stepped into fulfill this requirement instantly at the request of the Airport and Aviation Services Pvt. Ltd by placing their Mobile Toilet Units at the Arrivals Section of the airport. The Chairman of Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Pvt. Ltd, Major General (Rtd) G.A. Chandrasiri, commenting on this said, ‘‘With the airport re-opening to tourists, we had to work swiftly to implement necessary changes to the system and the premises. This required elaborate planning and quick action to procure necessary resources. One area where we had a major challenge in this regard was providing proper and safe sanitation facilities to arriving guests. We are grateful to Harpic for their prompt and generous response to install their high-end mobile toilet units at the ArrivalsSection. Harpic, as a socially conscious brand, deserves praise for their ever-willingness to shoulder a new responsibility’.
As part of ‘Harpic Mission Wellbeing’ CSR programme, Harpic made a substantial investment into building these state-of-the-art mobile toilet facilities with the objective of providing relief to the public long term. These units have served thousands of Sri Lankansover the years, being present at all of the nation’s major religious/cultural events such as Kandy Esala Perahera, Sri Pada pilgrimage season, Kataragama and Mihinthale during Poson season. ‘‘Harpic Mission Wellbeing is a CSR programme that works all around the year, uplifting the sanitation standards of the country and benefitting people. During the last few months, our focus shifted towards supporting the authorities battling Covid 19 pandemic and we directed our funds and resources towards that purpose. Placement of our mobile toilet units at the BIA was another initiative under our new approach during these challenging times.
