The Bank of Ceylon recorded the highest inward remittances of USD 2.7 billion as at end December 2020 despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is an increase of 1.2% YoY,” said BOC, DGM, W. M. P. Surawimala.
He said that due to the pandemic most of the unregistered channels like ‘Hawala’ and ECT could not be activated as they did not have a door to door delivery service. “Here the much needed foreign remittance went through the proper channels which were very praiseworthy.”
