JAAF upbeat on solved Eravur IPZ water issues

The Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF) yesterday sounded upbeat on the upcoming Eravur Investment Promotion Zone as one of the major issues to the Zone, which was the supply of water, saw some drawbacks which have been solved.

“This too was solved with Industries Minister Wimal Weerawansa meeting with Board of Investment Chairman Susantha Ratnayake last Friday, where the former assured water supply to the zone from the Valachchenai Paper Mill premises, JAAF Secretary General Tuli Cooray told Daily News Finance yesterday.

He also expressed his thanks to the Minister Weerawansa and BOI Chief Susantha Ratnayake for solving what was the most complicated issue.

“We are confident that the Eravur Investment Promotion Zone will be a reality very soon with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa pushing officials to have the expenditure heads under the 2021 Budget and also with Minister of Industries Wimal Weerawansa personally being the Cabinet Minister in charge of the Eravur IPZ and it will be him who will be personally presenting the Cabinet Papers and handling all the documentation as well, Cooray said.

Meanwhile, JAAF President Arumugampillai Sukumaran was quoted in the Daily News Finance Lead Story of May 27 that JAAF was going to promote the Eravur Investment Promotion Zone among Indian and Chinese investors and that he would be hopeful that there would be around five investors of fabric mills who will bring between US$ 25-40 Million.

They would be able to manufacture 300 tonnes of fabric on a daily basis, he said.
