Pan Asia Bank conducts islandwide CSR initiative in rural schools

Vignettes of the event.

Pan Asia Bank accelerated its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects in the arena of Education, which forms a key pillar of its CSR strategy. The Bank conducted a slew of projects at rural schools in Matale, Kandy, Pilimathalawa and Peradeniya under the patronage of the respective Pan Asia Bank branches in those locations.

Pan Asia Bank successfully provided an additional classroom through renovations and by donating desks, chairs and library books to the Aluvihare Maha Vidyalaya in Matale. Before the Bank’s timely intervention, the school was unable to provide minimum facilities to the students, with only one classroom. With the provision of an additional classroom, the capacity to accommodate more students has been improved.

The Bank also successfully completed a CSR project at Ampitiya Katawala Kanishtaya School recently by organizing free career guidance programmes and an art competition for all students to recognize and enhance their true potential.

Further, Pan Asia Bank’s Peradeniya Branch reached out to Mowbray College, Kandy, by assisting them in upgrading classrooms, washrooms and even the school surroundings through renovation. The school was facing severe lack of funds to carry out maintenance. The Bank’s Peradeniya branch volunteered to re-do their home-science section with repairs to the damaged walls, floor, painting of walls, polishing of floor area, curtaining, providing  table cloths  and also donating a microwave oven, a water filter and an electric kettle.

In operation for 97 years, Mowbray has a small community of less than 100 students studying in the Tamil medium but in recent years has seen a decline in numbers due to parents opting to send their children to other schools.

Pan Asia Bank’s Pilimathalawa Branch also donated School Bags, Paints and other items needed to colour wash the Ketapitiya Primary School-Menikdiwela.

The branch identified this school as one of the neediest schools in terms of financial assistance consisting of 100 students from Grade 1-5 in Pilimathalawa Area. The ceremony was graced by Yohan Ebell Chief Manager Central area of Pan Asia Bank.

As a responsible corporate citizen, Pan Asia Bank engages closely with the community within which it operates and always strives to reach out to local communities to assist them by identifying their true requirements and fulfilling them.
