McLarens Group amongst “10 Best Workplaces for Women in Sri Lanka ”

The McLarens Group

Diversified in business as well as diversified in workforce, McLarens Group was recognized amongst the inaugural list of “10 Best Workplaces for Women in Sri Lanka -2019.” The award ceremony was held at the Shangri La, Hotel Colombo, on September 6, 2019, where the Group received this esteemed award.

The McLarens Group always understood the significance of Gender Diversity in the corporate world and on every other forum. We believe that individuals are defined by their capabilities, personalities and their effort to strive for excellence, not by their gender. To us, a diverse and inclusive workforce celebrating people with different experience, personalities, age, gender, ethnicity, ingenuity and flair, helps us deliver a streamlined service to our customers, suppliers and business partners around the world. Although the maritime industry has a very low women representation locally and internationally, McLarens have taken a strategic stance towards enhancing the contribution of women not limited to support services, but also in operational roles to add vitality in our gender equality.

Our Joint Group Managing Director, Shehara Jayawardana, is the Founding President of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association in Sri Lanka (WISTA) and was recently appointed the Vice Chairperson for Ceylon Association of Shipping Agents (CASA). Her passion and unwavering support for the development of gender diversity within the Group, has been a key factor in acknowledging the role of women in the workplace.

Being a diversified conglomerate involves working with a variety of people, clients and businesses with a varied range of requirements and distinct personalities. At McLarens, that relationship begins internally, with our corporate family and the well-rounded bond we have with our employees.

“Given the male-dominated nature of the industries we operate in, there has been a significant increase in women representation within our Group which is a testament of our increasing focus on improving gender diversity. The McLarens story has always been about treating each other with respect, while celebrating our individual differences. This recognition brings about a sense of pride to all of us, knowing that we are not alone in our efforts to embrace and drive gender diversity,” commented Shehara Jayawardana, Group Joint Managing Director.
