Steady progress in tourist arrivals - Gomes

Chinese travel agents and officials from Sri Lanka Tourism at Colombo Hilton yesterday

Sri Lankan tourism is already showing steady progress after the Easter blasts and during the month of June arrivals saw a 70% growth over the previous, year said Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau, Kishu Gomes.

He was addressing the largest group of 103 Chinese travel agents to visit Sri Lanka at Colombo Hilton yesterday. Gomes said that all travel advisories have been toned down except in Russia and they will address this segment as well.

China is one of the top two tourist markets to Sri Lanka and the arrival of Chinese travel agents on a FAM tour organized jointly by China Panda Travels and Thambili Holidays will have far reaching benefits to Sri Lanka. “The purpose of this FAM tour is to showcase and assure the Chinese that Sri Lanka is safe.”

The travel agents said that they consider the Easter attracts as an isolated incident and they feel very safe in Sri Lanka. The group will travel to Kandy, Sigiriya and the South during their four day tour.
