Chief of the Prime Minister staff, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayaka paid a visit in the canal yard yesterday, to inspect the land area allocated for the construction of the planned 17 storey building complex to relocate the SLPA head office.
Chairman of the SLPA Kavan Ratnayaka, Managing Director Captain Athula Hewavitharana, a group of high profile officials and engineers were present at this occasion.
One of the extensive development projects been carried out surrounding the port city, the Kelanitissa to Gall-Face highway project, laying via the port premises, has cost multiple building complexes of SLPA.
Accordingly this brand-new 17 storey building complex to be constructed would lead SLPA to recover in the best way while opening up the opportunity for stakeholders to experience all the services from one place, resulting to an international brand as a smart port.
Furthermore, this project is expected to be completed within 2 years valued at 5 billion rupees. Exactly this building would construct opposite the Customs headquarters, Fort and it will be paved the way to an effective and efficient service provides with the assistance of both institutions.
Minister Sagala Ratnayaka who addressed the gathering said that, “we have planned to construct a new administrative building for SLPA. And also the port elevated highway project, funded by the ADB bank is underway with the assistance of RDA.
This highway project been initiated and to be laid via the port premises will be overlapped with several buildings owned by SLPA including the current administrative building. Therefore we will fast-track the construction of this new building complex with financial assistance rendered by the ADB bank. Thus we have planned to reinstate the buildings overlapped with this project at the newly constructed building premises. It’s a well-planned 17 storey building comprised of modern facilities. And also as the SLPA and RDA aim to complete this building within two years. And the highway project will be completed in three years. And we will also benefit from the loan amounting to Rs 5 billion, which will be provided by the ADB at a lower interest rate, the minister added.”
