If SME does their work properly, the government would assist them at any time in need, N. A. K. Nihal Chandrasiri, Proprieter of Silver Paint said.
Anyone who is interested in starting an industry could visit the Industrial Development Board under the Ministry of Industry, said Chandrasiri, who learnt his first lesson of manufacturing paints from the Gampaha branch.
In 2018, he won the ISO 9001 Quality Certificate and once again won the award in 2019. “I started making paints with the directions of Saman Thilakerathna, Deputy Director and guidance of Saminda Ranathunga, Business Promotion Officer, who would provide assistance to anyone who would wish to start his own business,” Chandrasiri said. He said 30 years ago, he started producing Distamper paint under the “Silvester Paint” label with Rs. 500 as a starting capital which was insufficient to cover his rent or transport cost. So he started his enterprise under a cadjan hut and delivered his products to the market on his brother’s bicycle. Initially, no one purchased his Distamper paint, but he continued to find new methods and left his products in hardware shops on a consignment basis. This worked and his new products started selling. With the increase in demand, his business gradually grew. Chandrasiri recruited new employees with the business growing and purchased his first van.
With the passage of time, added more vehicles to support his sales team. Presently, he is producing many paint related products and distributes them islandwide. “If we work hard in a correct manner, there are plenty of institutes to help us,” he said. Chandrasiri thanked Industries Minister Buddhika Pathirana for his assistance in helping entrepreneurs to go up in life.
