Webinar on plight of domestic construction industry

Once again the Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka has arranged a webinar on a topic of absolute relevance for those who are interested in the ebb and flow of this vital industry.

The webinar is titled “Impact of Supply Restrictions on Construction Projects“ and would primarily dwell on the present restrictions and their impact upon Construction Projects some of which are at a standstill for various reasons.

The Webinar is fixed for December 2 at 2 pm via Zoom and is scheduled to end at 5.30 pm. The topics for discussion are powerful and so are the speakers who are knowledgeable and experienced in their individual specialties. The opening topic would dwell on a broad sweep of the macro economic developments taking place in recent times being addressed by a Central Bank Director of the Economic Research Unit. This topic would be followed by the Chief Mining Engineer of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau speaking on the supply of local raw materials such as quarry products, sand, gravel, clay, bricks and tiles and their attendant supply issues.

The President of the Tile and Sanitary ware Importers Association would speak of issues that face them in these times of import restrictions and would propose various mitigatory measures.

Thereafter there would be two speakers from two major construction companies who would respectively analyse the shortage of major building materials such as cement, steel and other major

building materials and its impact upon prevailing projects and estimates and the other would elucidate on the escalation of prices of these materials and some contractual implications that contractors are facing amongst other things.

The Webinar will be moderated by the Past President of the Institute of Quantity Surveyors of Sri Lanka Ch. QS Upul Shantha and there would also be an opportunity for the participants to raise Questions through a “chatbox” mechanism.

This is a “must attend” webinar that the Chamber of Construction Industry of Sri Lanka has organized free of charge for the building fraternity and participants are advised to email to cciseminar1@gmail.com giving details.
