Sri Lankan made medical equipment to market

International standard medical equipment manufactured in Sri Lanka on foreign direct investment is to be released to local and foreign markets shortly.

“The release of these medical equipment will help fulfill local medical equipment needs and also support economic development through exports,” Basil Rajapaksa, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Economic Revival and Poverty Alleviation, said. Rajapaksa stated this at a discussion held at Temple Trees on Wednesday with the officials of Technomedix Flexicare Investment Pvt.Ltd. a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s office said.Sanjeewa Jayasinghe, General Manager, Technomedix - Flexicare, said the UK had invested over US $15 million in the project. “The factory is now fully operational and the first container can be approved for export in another month”, he said.

He further said that the government has given its full support to set up the factory expeditiously and all the manufactured equipment will be released to the international market under the ‘Made in Sri Lanka’ logo.

During the discussion, it had been pointed out that 95 per cent of the medical equipment manufactured by the factory will be exported and the remaining 5 per cent is used to meet local needs.

Channa Jayasumana, Minister of State for Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceutical Products, MP’s Sanjeewa Edirimanne and other officials participated.
