Setmil Logistics to enter European markets next year

Setmil Logistics Pvt. Limited Colombo 15 in a bid to expand its global footprint is planning to enter several European markets next year, said Director and Head of Commercial, Ravika De Silva.

He said that despite the global COVID-19 pandemic the logistics industry moved forward with some restrictions. “However, we see new opportunities reemerging especially in the European market and plan to enter this market.”

Currently Setmil Logistics engages in global operations through partnerships in China, India and in the Far East.

De Silva is a well-seasoned professional in Freight & Logistics Management with a successful track record in building global relationships whilst satisfying customer needs. A man who is always willing to take up challenges and never feared to sail out of his comfort zone to rough seas, De Silva moved to Saudi Arabiato join Kanoo Freight as its Regional Manager from Wings Logistics in India.

De Silva was in charge of commercial cargo operations in India for Wings Logistics and in Saudi Arabia withY.B.A. Kanoo group (Cargo GSA) for British Airways, Air India, Gulf Airways, Sri Lankan, Philippines Airlines and Singapore Airlines. After a very successful tenure of service at Kanoo Freight he was invited by FursanTravels, one of the top Travel companies in Saud to set-up cargo (Fursan Cargo) operations in Saudi Arabia and to serve as Director.

He proved his leadership abilities by setting up offices in all regions of Saudi Arabia and increasing revenue by providing excellent customer service.

Assisting the Sri Lankan community through the Sri Lankan Embassy in Saudi Arabia he headed the Business forum for 4 years in Saudi Arabia. (2011-14), assisted Blue Collar workers and was engaged in a series of events. He was also elected President of the Sri Lanka Expatriates Association in Saudi Arabia, the largest Sri Lankan Association.

After serving many years and gaining a host of experiences overseas, Ravika returned to his motherland and joined Setmil Logistics as Director and Head of Commercial.

In a bid to give his experience and knowledge to youth he founded the Old Peterites Batch Group of 93/94 with his batchmates where he held many positions up to 2017. He is presently the Honorary General Secretary of the St. Peter’s College Old Boys’ Union. He has conducted several career guidance sessions which were well-regarded events by the college authorities.

“Logistics is a high paying job for youth with very good career advancement prospects and school leavers should look at opportunities in the field. The sector also provides a very good means of employment,” De Silva added.
