Bourse witnesses profit taking session

Colombo bourse witnessed a profit taking session yesterday. Thus, the All Share Price Index concluded the day in the red territoryand declined49.7 points (-0.7%) to close at 7,542.2 led by local investor participation. Further, S&P SL20 Index also dropped by 22.1 points (-0.7%)to close the day at 3,033.0.Moreover, LOLC Holdings, Commercial Bank,

Browns Investments, Expolanka Holdings and Ceylon Cold Stores remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Meanwhile the latest addition to the Colombo Stock Exchange, Prime Land Residencies started trading yesterday and gained +14% during the first day of trading.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at LKR2,000.9mn (USD9,979.6k) vs. 12-month average daily turnover of LKR3,075.4mn (USD15,345.9k) whilst the volume traded for the day was 97,890.4k against the 12-month average daily volume of 171,221.8k. Real Estate and Capital Goodswere the main sectors that contributed to the daily turnover. The top traded counters for the day were Prime Land Residencies LKR 614.3 mn (USD3,065.5k, +14.2%), Royal Ceramics LKR111.3mn (USD555.6k, -0.8%), Lanka Walltiles LKR109.8mn (USD599.0k, +13.9%), LOLC Holdings LKR97.9mn (USD488.7k, -1.2%) and Expolanka Holdings LKR 90.3mn (USD450.3k, -1.5%). Foreigners were net sellers recording an outflow of LKR 22.8 mn (USD11.4k) during the day.Foreign purchases stood at LKR48.1mn (USD24.0k) enticed by Hemas Holdings (LKR26.9mn), Prime Land Residencies (LKR3.3mn) and Lanka Tiles(LKR2.0 mn) whilst total foreign sales amounted to LKR70.9mn (USD35.4k), mainly seen in Singer Finance(LKR16.0 mn), NDB Bank (LKR12.2mn), Expolanka Holdings (LKR10.9 mn) and BairahaFarms (LKR10.8mn).

People’s Insurance, Prime Land Residencies, Laugfs Power and HNB Finance (Voting &Non Voting)touched their 52-week high prices yesterday whilst SMB Leasing reached its 52-week low price point. Further,Prime Land Residencies, Browns Investments, Industrial Asphalts, and Royal Ceramicsremained as the most actively traded stocks for the day.
