With a target of increasing the forestry and protecting watersheds, Vidullanka PLC launched an island-wide multiple tree planting campaign in the areas of its existing mini-hydropower plants.
This year’s programme commencedfrom Bambarabatuoya MHPP, Ratnapura by planting 1000 plants in Bataktiya Ela, Kempnawththa area. It was conducted together with schoolchildren, police, government servants, village development officers, clergy, and villagers.
Simultaneously, the company also planted 500 plants in Lowe Kotmale MHPP area in the Kotmale Vidyakara Adarsha primary school, 300 plants in Wembiyagoda MHPP Forest land and 100 plants in Badulla, Soranathota Udawela MHPP land. The company commenced its reforestation programme in 2013 titled, “Vidu Saviya – Ratata Seveanak” in Aranayake, with a mission to commit towards a sustainable future.
The campaign was spearheaded by the operation team and was carried out island-wide.
The 2019 programme was freshened with a new target of planting 20,000 trees and sustaining them with a strongly developed policy and responsible team. Commenting on the tree planting campaign, Vidullanka Operations Director Roshan Siriwardana stated that this success has been due to various initiatives the team had taken.
