Demonstrating its commitment to minimize the negative impact on the environment, Sri Lanka’s favourite ice-cream, Elephant House initiated a waste disposal mechanism for the collection and disposal of high-volume waste generated during the season in Nuwara Eliya.
As thousands gathered in Nuwara Eliya to enjoy the cool climes and celebrate the dawn of Avurudu, Elephant House planned a corporate social responsibility project created a meaningful impact in helping to keep the city clean. In collaboration with the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, Elephant House distributed garbage bins around the city. The bins were placed in popular locations around the city and venues including near Gregory Lake and surrounding areas, which expected a higher foot fall, thus ensuring everyone in Nuwara Eliya enjoyed the festivities more responsibly, protecting the environment as well.
Serving the community and continuously pursuing environmental responsibility has been a hallmark of the company. Elephant House has unceasingly championed efforts to ensure the responsible disposal of plastic waste. As partners in John Keells Group’s social entrepreneurship initiative ‘Plastic Cycle,’ one of the objectives of the company is to responsibly drive the disposal and recycling of plastic waste.
