CA Sri Lanka budget seminar to evaluate economic and tax perspectives

The annual budget seminar organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) will evaluate the economic and tax perspectives arising from the National Budget.

It will also feature a host of speakers and panelists representing the private and public sectors who will share their thoughts at the seminar on 9 March at the Hilton Colombo.

Chief Executive Officer of Verite Research Dr. Nishan De Mel will deliver an economic analysis of the budget, which will be followed by a panel discussion. The panel session will feature Mr. Deshal De Mel, Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Finance, Dinesh Weerakkody, Chairman of the Hatton National Bank PLC, Mangala Yapa, Technical Advisor to the Ministry of Development Strategies & International Trade and Dr. Rohan Fernando, Head of Plantations and Business Development and Director of Aitken Spence PLC.

The second session will focus on the tax perspectives of the budget, and will feature a presentation by Partner of KPMG Shamila Jayasekara. Her presentation will be followed by a panel session featuring of D. R. S. Hapuarachchi, Senior Commissioner - Tax Policy, International Affairs of the Department of Inland Revenue, Hiranthi Ratnayake, Chairperson of the CA Sri Lanka Tax Committee, K. A. Vimalenthirarajah, Director General of the Department of Fiscal Policy, N. R. Gajendran, Senior Partner of Gajma & Co. and Sulaiman Nishtar, Partner of Ernst & Young. The moderator at the session will be V. Sivagurunathan, Partner of the Consultants’ Consortium.

The budget seminar is open to members and students of the institute as well as professionals from the non-accounting stream and the general public.
