Former long-standing Managing Director/CEO Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC’s Kishu Gomes was appointed as the Chairman of both Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) and Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau (SLTPB) yesterday by the Minister of Tourism John Amaratunge. Gomes said that there would be two separate boards for SLTDA and SLTPB and he would head both of them.

The Chairman said their aim was to attract 3 million tourists in 2019 and have set up a revenue target of US $ 7 billion for 2020. Last year Sri Lanka saw 2.3 million arrivals and revenue of US$ 4.4 billion. “We also plan to make tourism the number one foreign exchange earner for the country in a couple of years.”

Gomes said that after leaving a multinational company he wanted to do something for the country and selected this position after several ‘big wings’ in the leisure industry requested him to do so after heading the tourism awards committee.

“I feel that I could do more for the masses by taking this position in tourism.” (SS)
