The final preparatory meeting towards the forming of the Asia Pacific Trade Agreement Chamber (APTA CCI), was held last month in Beijing. APTA-CCI, would be inaugurated in China in May and Sri Lanka had been offered the Chair. The Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCISL) Director and Strategy Committee Chairman Dr. Rohitha Silva was nominated as
President-designate for APTA-CCI by its member country chambers that met in China.
Bangladesh, China, India, Korea, Laos, Mongolia and Sri Lanka are the member countries of the APTA CCI.
The setting up of APTA CCI had been endorsed by all participating states at the 50th Standing Committee Meeting on January 12, 2017, followed by the fourth session of the Ministerial Council meeting of January 13, 2017 held at UNESCAP, Bangkok.
Sri Lanka businesses can reap more benefits when Asia Pacific Trade Agreement Chamber (APTA CCI) is set up in May in Beijing, China, said President designate of APTA, Dr. Rohitha Silva.
The 28th Floor APTA CCI Headquarters would be set up in China by 2022 and there would be special areas to show case products and services of member countries including Sri Lanka.
“This would give a golden opportunity to Sri Lankan companies to showcase local products to the Chinese market.” “Already, Ministry of Crabs has opened a restaurant in Shanghai and more Lankan companies could even form JV to enter China through showcasing products and services at the proposed headquarters expected to be opened in 2020.”
Secretary General FCCISL and Coordinator for APTA CCI, Ajith D. Perera said that setting up of this body would be very beneficial. “It would also open up many opportunities for the private sector to interact not only with China but with other member countries as well.”
Coordinator of APTA CCI, Asia, Hui Dias Bandaranayake, said that Sri Lanka had made history in Beijing, China recently, by been added to this body and also been awarded the first ever Presidency of it. Bandaranayake based in Sri Lanka, said that the final preparatory meeting was successful.
