Contingent of Indonesian doctors visits Ninewells Hospital

Indonesian doctors at Ninewells Hospital

Ninewells Mother & Baby Care Hospital recently played host to a team of 20 Indonesian doctors comprising of Gynecologists and Obstetricians who were part of a contingent of 40 doctors who visited the Island recently.

The Indonesian doctors visited Sri Lanka to study the country’s health care system, particularly maternal and baby care, as Sri Lanka records the lowest rate of maternal mortality in South Asia.

Speaking about the visit, Dr. Ammar Siradjuddin (SpOG) – Indonesia General Hospital said, “Indonesia struggles with a high maternal mortality rate, while our friends in Sri Lanka have the lowest maternal mortality rate in the South Asian Region. So, we decided to pay a special visit to Sri Lanka to get a firsthand experience of what the Sri Lankan healthcare system is doing right".

"Following this visit we hope to take home our learnings and figure out ways to implement similar measures in Indonesia to combat our high maternal mortality rate. I also like to take this opportunity to thank the whole team at Ninewells Hospital for their exceptional support. We felt welcome and very much at home.”

Medical Director of Ninwells Hospital, Dr. Vibash Wijeratne also discussed the visit and added, “Being the only specialized private maternity hospital in Sri Lanka, we were honoured to welcome the Indonesian delegation to our facility.

Ninewells is committed to providing the best care for mothers and babies and we are more than happy to be able to share our expertise with the Indonesian doctors to help improve the condition of their healthcare system in their home country."

Ninewells Mother & Baby Care Hospital is the only specialized private maternity hospital in Sri Lanka and is located at Kirmandala Mawatha, Colombo 5.
