The harvesting of salt for the season in Palavi Saltern Ltd, commenced and due to good weather conditions a bumper harvest is expected. Despite having several salt plants operated by both the government and private sector Sri Lanka is yet to be self sufficient and a target has been set to reach self sufficiency by 2020.
