For the first time in Sri Lanka, The Flower Weddings Pvt Ltd, is introducing handmade flowers using 100% local material and decorations to suit any occasions.
The mentor and the Director of the company Buddhika Idamgedara said that the unique feature of this is that they would make any flower and would also create it to match the theme colour of any occasion. “During a wedding if the bridesmaids are wearing pink we will create flowers to match that colour.”
He said that these creations are made at their factory in Kundasale and they use only binder glue, cloth, wire and paints.
A former IT Engineer and a graphic designer, he created the business after studying the successful operation of their parents which created one of Sri Lanka’s first flower décor shops, in 1973.
“My parents, Kumudini and Mahinda first supplied natural flowers to Laksala and due its success created their own company. During the time flowers were used to decorate states visits of VVIPS and their flowers were used to decorate the visit of Queen Elizabeth.
“I saw their success and then decided to get involved in the business but wanted to create something exclusive for Sri Lanka and decided to create the Flower Weddings Pvt Ltd.”
Not stopping at only making flowers I offer my expertise in outdoor weddings, interior décor, sign boards, photo framing, painting and decorating rooms and special area, special menu boards and many more differed to what is currently done in Sri Lanka. “I could even decorate a room with special paints and theme as a surprise to the person who uses the room in just two nights.”
He said that when an order is received and discuses he draws a sketch instantly and create the flowers and décor according to this sketch at their factory. “We even create artificial flower pettles that are sawn in the ground when the wedding couple walks out”
Asked what is unique in them as against other competitors he said while others offers series of artificial flowers to choose from ‘The flower weddings’ create the flowers drawn by the customer. “We can even go to the extent of introducing a special fragrance to the flowers.”
He said hosting an event with artificial flowers are 40% cheaper and this has also create more demand. “This is why we recently opened a two storeyed complex in Hospital Street Kandy and then have two branches in Colombo and Kandy.
He said that one of the key pillars of his success is that his personal touch in every event they host and they would not accept more than two events per day.
The Flower Weddings Pvt Ltd has already done many corporate functions, weddings and special events vents and has also received several overseas invitations. “We have been invited to do weddings in Australia, Malaysia and India.
“In addition a Mumbai based event management company is looking to tie up with us and we may soon open a franchisee office there,” he said.
