State Finance Minister presents Appropriation Bill for 2018 Budget

Appropriation Bill for the Budget for 2018 outlining allocations to be made for each ministry for year 2018 to Parliament for its First Reading was presented by State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne.

Accordingly the expected expenditure for 2018 will be Rs. 3,983 billion and the expected government income was reportedly Rs. 2,174 billion.

The Ministry of Finance stated that the Budget for the 2018 will be drafted in a way that promotes economic growth and social welfare in a sustainable framework that will aid the progressive growth of the country.

While recurrent expenditure is estimated at Rs. 1.309 trillion, the government has allocated Rs. 668 billion for capital expenditure.

The government estimates a revenue of Rs. 2.175 trillion from foreign grants while another Rs. 1.813 trillion is to be financed through loans obtained from both foreign and domestic sources.
