The National Audit Bill has to go though more reforms before it is to be implemented, said Secretary of the UPFA, Duminda Dissanayake.

General Secretary of the UNP, Minister Kabir Hashim said that the implementation of the Audit bill had delayed due to red tape while Propaganda Secretary JVP Vijitha Herath said that the Act has already being drafted and the two and half year delay was not acceptable.

These sentiments came in to light at the Manthri.lk discussion event in Colombo yesterday which was organised by Verité Research, a non-partisan Colombo based Think Tank, which focuses on economic, political, legal and media research, in partnership with Saberion, a leading transnational web and mobile technology provider.

Herath also accuse that this draft bill has being purposely delayed by both politicians and some top officials since they feared it.

A Sumanthiran, MP too said that the bill is being delayed purposely and it was going against the political manifesto. Nisan De Mel from Veriti Research who was the mediator said that today good governance has created a new political culture and this is also pushing politicians to deliver their promises.

Manthri.lk is a pioneering trilingual website which, for the first time, profiles the actions and activities of each of the 225 Members of Parliament in Sri Lanka. As a MP monitoring scorecard, Manthri.lk recognizes the need for accountability between MPs and their electorates. In doing so, it seeks to promote transparency and good governance to improve Sri Lanka’s democratic framework.
