Bentota Beach Hotel to get Rs 4 bn facelift with 24 more keys

Bentota Beach Hotel one of the first resort hotels in the history of Sri Lankan tourism will be closed from end of this month for two years.

This would be for a one of the biggest ever refurbishment projects in the industry’s history. The management Keells Hotels would invest Rs. 4 billion for this project according to a manager in the hotel. “We will add 24 more rooms increasing the hotel inventory to 175 rooms,” he said.

The hotel has also offered a Golden Handshake for its employees as the hotel would be out of business for two years. “Over 15 have consented and the balance staff would be distributed among other hotels of the group both in Sri Lanka and the Maldives.”

He said the property is too tired having being standing for over 40 years and new luxuries including six suites would be introduced. It is expected to be re branded keeping the name ‘Bentota’.

The hotel also underwent a refurbishment drive six years ago and since then no major restricting had taken place.

One of the first hotels in Sri Lanka that was inspired by the legendary architect Bevis Bawa, the hotel would recreate these creations under the new refurbishment drive. The new architect would be Channa Daswatta and the Bawa architecture would be maintained.
