Comply with Govt Directives, says OPA

We earnestly request the general public to heed and comply with the directives given by the Government as well as the Medical Professionals in order to curb this pandemic, stated Saman Warusavithana, President of the Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka.

In a news release, the OPA stated:  The Organisation of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka (OPA) being the apex body of 52 Professional Associations in the country, including Medical, Engineering, Law, Agriculture professions etc., has a large number of its members involved in the frontlines of containing the current COVID-19 pandemic’s segment in Sri Lanka. As of now these include members of the medical and allied healthcare professions attached to   hospitals and quarantine centres islandwide, logistics and pertinent sectors and the members of the COVID-19 Government Task Force.

Aside from the ongoing management, Members of the OPA are also planning for the aftermath of the pandemic, factoring in the global economic status and its effect upon Sri Lanka. Prudent planning to control the current situation as well as the possible upcoming medical and economic scenarios is vital for the reinstatement of the normal state of affairs in the ensuing period. The President and the Executive Council of the OPA would like to express its gratitude to the Medical Professionals and Staff of hospitals and quarantine centres for their selfless dedication and ceaseless efforts. We would also like to thank Government Officials, Private Sector employees and volunteers for their part in help reducing the spread of the disease.

Admirable services provided by the Tri Forces and Police, who have been called upon once again by their country in this time of need are also highly appreciated. The Government of Sri Lanka’s timely response to this situation by establishing quarantine centres and instating and enforcing laws and regulations to curtail the spread of this pandemic are also highly commended.”
