Kurunegala National Thalassemia Centre needs facelift

The National Thalassemia Centre at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital can accommodate only 300 patients, but about 1,000 patients attend clinics and seek treatment daily from the centre.

The centre was set up in 2003 for 300 patients and thereafter, it was not upgraded so far, sources said. “We need two more wards and an official vehicle as well. Every year, facilities were promised but for five years none was provided,” said Centre OIC Dr. Dayanda Bandara.
