Re-open session of bourse delayed

The commencement of the re-open session of Colombo bourse was delayed yesterday (16) due to one broker system vendor having technical difficulties in connecting to the exchange.

Meanwhile the go live date of the implementation of the Delivery Versus Payment (DVP) Settlement mechanism was also scheduled for yesterday. Moreover, given the higher number of infections in the country, increasing Covid-19 deaths and limited trading time, the market closed in red where the All Share Price Index declined by 60.9 points (-0.8%) to close at 7,935.2 whilst the S&P SL20 Index also dropped by12.1 points (-0.4%)to close the day at 2,978.9.

John Keells Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Dialog Axiata, Sampath Bank and Hayleys remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at LKR834.4 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of LKR 3,363.8 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 56,392.9k against the 12-month average daily volume of 188,398.3k.
