
The National Chamber of Exporters of Sri Lanka launched the ‘Application and the Guidelines’ in view of the 29th NCE Awards Ceremony, during a virtual ceremony recently with the participation of a large number of potential applicants, sponsors and media.
The flagship event of the Chamber scheduled for December 1, 2021 at Hotel Shangri-La, Colombo, has been consecutively conducted during the last 28 years, serves to recognize and reward the achievements of Sri Lankan Exporters in the International Market Place.
The Application Form is a comprehensive document that captures all important aspects related to Exports in the modern context of International Trade. Each year, the Chamber makes improvements to the structure of the Awards scheme and evaluation criteria to accommodate current needs of international trade and also based on the feedback received from past award winners.
Addressing the audience, Ravi Jayawardena, President of the Chamber highlighted the importance of conducting this annual event despite many challenges as a gesture of motivating and encouraging Sri Lankan exporters for their resilience in sustaining exports during the calamitous period. As customary, this prestigious event will be steered under the theme “RISE, REBUILT & REGAIN” as it is the most appropriate theme in the present context to depict the world at large, conquering all setbacks and moving forward in sustaining exports.
Jayawardena also stated that the Awards this year will be in respect of Export Performance for the year 2020 and adding a special feature, NCE will be introducing the “NCE CHALLENGE TROPHY”, for organizations who perform ethical trading practices under Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large categories. This is the latest addition to the awards scheme by NCE and organizations who align their business activities with ethical trading practices will be brought into the limelight in recognition of their achievement, he added.
The selection of Award Winners is carried out by an independent and professional Panel of Judges competent in the various aspects of exports. Dr. Jagath Peiris, the Chairman of the Panel of Judges stated the importance of adhering to deadlines as stipulated in submitting applications as it will ease the process of evaluation and selection process. He further highlighted that the the Panel of Judges are assisted by a separate ‘Technical Committee’ comprising knowledgeable persons in the technical aspects of Exports.
Further the Chamber engages the services of a leading Multi-National Audit Firm “Ernst & Young” to provide professional inputs to the Panel of Judges as the Strategic Knowledge Partner of the Chamber, to ensure transparency, and credibility of the entire selection process of Award Winners, which has enabled to benchmark this event for its professionalism, and high Standard.
Jayantha Karunaratne, Chairman of the Events Sub Committee in his address, highlighted the importance of winning an award as it speaks volumes about the products and services of an export enterprise and strengthens its credibility which enables it to reinforce the loyalty of its clients.
“It is also the “Testimony” of the work ethics, dedication, and uniqueness of an export organization that enhances the reputation in the eyes of the general public, prospective customers and differentiates the enterprise from competitors.”
NCE Export awards is a most looked forward to event by the Exporter Community of Sri Lanka, and has assumed National Significance over the years given its Professionalism, Integrity, and High Standard of Conduct with Glitter and Glamour. The event has hitherto been attended by over 700 participants, comprising the cream of the Business Community, especially Exporters, High State Officials, Diplomats, and the Political Leadership, stated Mr. Shiham Marikar, Secretary General of the NCE.
Menaka Wanniarachchi, Director Operation of the NCE highlighted the important dates aligned with the event and accordingly, the application closing date will be September 24, 2021 and in support of prospective applicants, NCE will be conducting few awareness sessions on zoom platform in explaining the procedure to fill the applications.
NCE Exports Awards is the most looked forward to event in the Sri Lankan business calendar and the event confers Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards to achievers of the Standards determined by the Panel of Judges. The ‘Most Outstanding Exporter of the Year’ as well as the ‘Most Outstanding Exporter Runner-up of the Year’ are selected out of the Sectorial Award Winners.
