The Yala Hilton built by Melwa Hotels and Resorts, one of the new players to enter the Sri Lanka hospitality Industry has won global recognition at the World Architecture and Design Awards 2019 in Thailand recently.
The award was presented for the hotel designed by Architect Stephen O’Dell of SODA (Thailand) Ltd.
Chieg, Operating Officer Melwa Hotels said that this is an unique achievement since they won an award even before the hotel was constructed and opened. “We have taken great care to protect the environment, design and these were recongnised by the Jury,” he said.
“Aspects and standards such as, health and safety, wildlife and nature conservation will be mainly taken into consideration”.
MELWA as a diversifying market leader, realizing the Sri Lankan strategic development sectors in which there is growth, entered the Sri Lankan hospitality/tourism industry in the year 2014/2015, named as Melwa Hotels and Resorts (Pvt) Ltd.
Melwa Hotels & Resorts signed a pivotal agreement with Hilton worldwide to manage its six hotels to be built in Sri Lanka. The six hotels positioned in Sri Lanka’s popular tourist locations are Hilton Kandy Resort, The Hilton Yala Resort & Spa, Hilton Kosgoda Resort, The Double Tree by Hilton Nuwara Eliya, Double Tree by Hilton Colombo International Airport and Double Tree by Hilton Negombo.
As a result, MELWA Hotels & Resorts will be built according to its brand guidelines to ensure that its global brand standards are matched.
MELWA projects to be in full operation by the year 2025 with over 1,000 rooms fully functioning. The company will also be pursuing developments in other areas of the country to achieve the company’s tourism goals. The country will benefit from tourism, which will bring foreign exchange and contribute towards GDP of Sri Lanka, while providing many job opportunities in the tourism sector and indirectly in some other sectors.
