Digamadulla Navodaya Industrial and Trade Exhibition next week

The Ampara District Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture is organizing a major trade and industry exhibition titled ‘Digamadulla Navodaya,’ from March 29 to 31 at the Ampara H.M. Weerasinghe grounds.

It is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary Industries and Social Empowerment, District Secretariat of Ampara and International Economic Cooperation Institute (ICEI), under the SRI PROM project, Australian Funded Skill for Inclusive Growth Program, ICTA and GIZ, SME Development Project and the Bank of Ceylon.

The eighth “Digamadulla Navodaya” Industrial and Trade Exhibition, DNITE, is aimed at providing a platform for interaction between Business Service Developers and Micro and Small Entrepreneurs and Farmers. It would be a unique opportunity that facilitates the promotion of environmentally friendly products and services of small, micro and medium entrepreneurs in the

region and facilitate market linkages. Business development service providers including machinery/equipment suppliers as well as communication, financial, technology, advertising and media service providers would also be provided an opportunity to promote their services to the entrepreneurs from the Eastern Province. Participants include key business development

service providers from the public sector, such as the Department of Agriculture, Department of Export Agriculture, Industrial Development Board, Sri Lanka Standards Institution, SEEDs, Exporters and the Exporters Association, Cashew Corporation, Institute of Post Harvesting, Palmyra Board, Central Environment Authority, Urban Development Authority, Foreign Employment Bureau, Urban Councils, Department of Samurdhi, National Handy Craft Council, National Design Centre, National Packaging Institute and packaging materials and many other Government and Public service providers.

There would be around 150 exhibition/trade stands at the fair.

The fair is expected draw medium, small and micro entrepreneurs, school children, farmers, students of national schools, universities and vocational training institutes, representatives of embassies, development projects, the general public in and around Ampara district etc. The fair would have many attractions from discussions, workshops, seminars, lecture series, open forums, buyer seller meetings, mini workshops, street drama, cultural shows, Tourism Promotional Events etc. There would also be a fashion show to promote Ampara Batik and Hand Looms products, micro grants to environmental friendly small and micro Agriculture entrepreneurs from Ampara district by the Institute for International Economic Cooperation through SRI PROM project as part of an initiative to promote eco friendly production and consumption.

In addition, there would be a carnival, games for children and musical shows.

The Primary Industries and Social Empowerment Ministry, Institute for International Economic Cooperation through SRI PROM project and the Bank of Ceylon are the main sponsors of this event. The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, “Lake House” and ITN are the media sponsors of the event.
