Woolmark Company partners with Intex South Asia

The Woolmark Company has partnered with Intex South Asia to showcase the latest innovations in Merino wool and The Lab trend forecast kit at one of the largest trade and sourcing fairs in the region.

The Woolmark Company Country Manager, Arti Gudal hosted a seminar recently in Seminar Hall, discussing how Meino wool works to connect luxury with innovation. In addition, Indian fashion designer, Dhruv Kapoor will present a fashion show one for menswear and one women swear each showcasing eight luxurious, innovative Merino wool looks.

New innovations pave the way forward for the Merino wool industry, allowing it to be a dynamic one that is forever changing. As the fair's official innovation Partner, the Woolmark Company will present two performance enhancing products which can be integrated into both the fashion and active wear markets.

Neulana Protect is an innovative 100 percent Merino wool fabric, resistant to wind and rain. Co-developed with the Nanshan Group at the Wool Development Centre in China, the fabric is constructed at very high levels of thread density in warp and weft using fine Merino wool yarns that has been stretched, but not set, during Optim processing.

It is only when the fabric is wet finished that the stretch is released causing the yarns to contract, thus leading to an extreme frightening of the fabric structure and the creation of the immensely dense fabric. Already, leading brands across the world have commercialised products using this special fabric for both fashion and active-wear.

The latest innovations in wool have also led to the rise of wool footwear shoes that enhance the fibre's natural properties whilst constructed in a way which aids performance. The Woolmark Company's technical team has been working to crate shoes that are not only comfortable and allows your foot to breathe, but is also resistant to odour and wicks away moisture.

Working closely with leading knitting machine manufacturers such as Shima Seiki, STOLL and Santoni the Woolmark Company has crated several prototypes using advanced wool yarns to enhance the inherent benefits of the fire. For example, by combining yarns together and 3D knitting, the entire upper can be free of cutting and sewing. Comfortable, for wearing next to skin by using a 100 percent Merino wool yarn as an inner surface layer, the latest spinning technology helps to knit the fabric onto the outer face of the shoes’ upper, enhancing the abrasion resistance. Post workout muscle recovery can also be improved by using a combination of Far Infrared (FIR) material with wool.

“Thank to our more active lifestyle and causal approach, runners are undoubtedly one of the most poplar items in today's global market,” explains The Woolmark Company's General Manager, Processing Innovation and Education Extension Julee Davies.

“The natural properties of wool such as odour resistance, breathability, comfort and shape retention allows for the ultimate in footwear. By working closely with our suppliers, we have been able to develop technically advanced yarns to be incorporated into the upper, inner and liner for a range of machine washable footwear.” (DJ)
