Jetwing Yala aims at five star classification

Jetwing Yala the only four star hotel in the area is aiming at obtaining five star classification soon.

General Manager Gamunu Srilal said that they expect this certification in a few months. He said that the hotel Group also have reinvestment plans Jetwing Yala to add more rooms but they were put on hold due to the current C-19 situation.``

“The hotel spread across 38 acres featuring 80 rooms and 10 luxury tented villas, is now fully functional under tight health guidelines and due to its close proximity to Yala National Park and special offers is in high demand from locals and expats. In addition the extension of the highway up to Mattala the hotel could be accessed by a ‘three hour drive’ from Colombo.”

Launched in January 2014, the property was designed in a sustainable manner with an acre dedicated to a solar park and other environmental friendly initiatives which provides around 40% of the hotel’s electricity demand.

He also said that the hotel sea area is ideal for water sports and they have also stationed Australian trained lifeguards on duty who also conduct water based sports for guests. Srilal said, “Jetwing hotels as a part of their CSR tied up with Australian global water Sports Company and trained several youth. In addition we also trained local youth regularly who gained employment at the hotel. Most of these youth talents trained by us found employment in various global hotels.”

Jetwing Yala features an outdoor pool, a business center, a 24-hour front desk, complimentary Wi-Fi access throughout the property and luxurious rooms located on the borders of Yala National Park. The spacious rooms have four-poster beds, mini bar, air-conditioning, in-room safe, flat-screen cable TV, iron, mini-bar and tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and hot/cold shower.

The property with outdoor pool including a kiddie’s pool houses ‘The Dining Room’ restaurant, Living Room bar and pool bar and ‘Thamapanni’ the Asian fusion fine dining restaurant.

Last year the BBC also featured Jetwing Yala under the heading ‘The Sri Lankan hotel where an elephant is a guest’ after guest videos went viral with an elephant walking inside the hotel without harming anyone.

“Staff at the Jetwing hotel said the fully grown Asian bull elephant has been “the hotel’s most loyal patron” since 2013.

In the initial years, ‘Natta Kota’ was a seasonal visitor, appearing for a few months of the year. A few years ago, he took up permanent residence at Jetwing where he is allowed to be at peace. Natta Kota is not always on his best behavior,” a Jetwing spokesperson told the BBC.
