Laksala, Sala enter into a partnership to take franchise overseas

SALA Global (Pvt) Ltd have joined hands with Laksala to take their products globally by having their showrooms and using their IT knowledge after observing the destitute situation of artisans and craftsmen in the country due to the present COVID pandemic.

Having signed the Franchise Agreement with Laksala for UAE, their first showroom will be in operation from October 2021 in Dubai along with the DUBAI EXPO 2021. In this operation, Reemal Trading also tied up with Sala.

Sri Lanka Handicraft Board, popularly known as “Laksala” has been promoting the sale of local handicrafts through their showrooms spread islandwide. Laksala is a State-owned Gift & Souvenir Boutique, since its inception in 1964 now has 12 branches island-wide of which 4 are located in Colombo and the balance in prominent main towns in the outstations. The ranges of items have exceeded 50,000.

SALA GROUP has 30 years of experience in the IT field having a large dealer network covering the entire country.

SALA represents several leading brands of computer peripherals and also holds the ownership for two local brands E Pad & E Marc. SALA also partnered with the three leading telecommunication operators in the country, Sri Lanka Telecom, Dialog Axiata and Lanka Bell in many of their projects.

Some other key features that also attracted Sala to take this opportunity was the 50,000+ locally made products available with Laksala, craftsmanship and quality.

SALA can offer Global presence and experience, explore new markets and explore online (Digital) marketing reaching a wide base of customers. They also hope to provide the customers with a virtual shopping experience, provide information on new trends in Handicrafts and generate leads & achieve faster growth.

Chairman Sala Global Chinthaka Wijewickrama says that in addition to Dubai, there will be SALA Global showrooms opened in Japan, China and in the California USA by the end of this year. In addition to the handicrafts, Laksala having a range of food items including organic, spices, herbal, ayurvedic, spices, cosmetics, leather, clothing etc have made it more viable for SALA to reach out to many countries around the globe.

He also added that apart from the increased revenue the artisans and the manufacturers would be receiving; there would also be a better use of local raw material for their production. The country too would benefit from the foreign exchange that would be generated through the business. (AK)
