Bourse starts week with profit taking

The Colombo bourse started the week with some profit taking yesterday whilst Sri Lanka’s COVID death toll exceeded 10,000 during the weekend.

Thus, the All Share Price Index declined by 88.8 points (-0.9%) to close at 9,227.9 whilst the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 39.5 points (-1.1%) to close the day at 3,455.2. Expolanka Holdings, Commercial Leasing and Finance, Browns Investments, LOLC Holdings and Vallibel One remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 7,733.5 mn against the 12- month average daily turnover of Rs.3,824.2 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 874,370.1k against the 12-month average daily volume of 209,562.2k. Transportation, Capital Goods and Food and Beverage sectors mostly contributed to the day’s turnover.

The top traded counters for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 2,296.6 mn (-2.8%), Browns Investments Rs. 1,147.2 mn (-2.7%), Hemas Holdings Rs. 991.7 million (+2.2%), LOLC Holdings Rs. 424.9 million (-0.9%), and Kotagala Plantations Rs. 235.9 million (-23.2%). Further, an off-board transaction was witnessed in Sunshine Holdings (Rs. 102.5 million) yesterday.

Additionally, Merchant Bank, SMB Leasing (Voting and Non-Voting), Blue Diamonds, Nation Lanka Finance and Acme Printing were the top price gainers yesterday whilst Kotagala Plantations, ACL Plastics, People’s Merchant Bank and Ceylon Hotels Corp. were the top price losers.

Further, SMB Leasing (Voting and Non-Voting), Browns Investments, Merchant Bank, Kotagala Plantations and Softlogic Capital were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.

Further, Kotagala Plantations Rights were listed today where Rs.789.9 million was raised via 263,287,500 shares.
