ASPI, S&P SL20 Index dips

The Colombo bourse continued to slip throughout the day mainly due to rattled investor sentiments amidst rapid spread of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Hence, the ASPI declined by 47.4 points (-0.7%) to close at 7,293.6, while the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 26.9 points (-0.9%) to close at 2,926.8. Moreover, LOLC Holdings, Expolanka, Commercial Bank, Melstarcorp and Vallibel One remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day. Meanwhile, yesterday’s total turnover stood at LKR1,306.2 mn (USD6,513.9k) vs. 12-month average daily turnover of LKR3,029.0 mn (USD15,105.2k) whilst the volume traded for the day was 116,873.2k against the 12-month average daily volume of 169,140.3k.

An off the floor transaction was witnessed in Sampath Bank (LKR22.9 mn).Additionally, Mahaweli Coconut Plantation, Bogala Graphite, Laugfs Power and HNB Finance touched their 52-week high prices today whilst E B Creasy and SMB Leasing reached their 52-week low price points. Meanwhile, Teejay Lanka (TJL) recorded an earnings of LKR 761mn in 4QFY21 (cf. a net profit of LKR 422mn in 4QFY20) whilst revenue of the group expanded 40% YoY to LKR 9.8bn.

The improved earnings were mainly due to increased volumes and cost control initiatives.
