A total of 217 Board of Investment ( BOI) approved factories which are located within the 13 zones are functional out of the total of 285, BOI- Director General Sanjaya Mohottala told Daily News Finance yesterday morning.
He also said that the BOI had a total of 1700 factories through only 300 were within the 13 zones of Katunayake, Biyagama, Koggala, Seethawaka, Pallekelle and others. Of all of the employees round Sri Lanka, there were 520,000 employees of which 145,000 were employed within the zones.
Of the green zones (which are outside the provinces which have curfew), most of them are returning to work, he said.
Of the different Industrial Zones, there were 48 at Katunayake 3971 employees had returned to work right now, while Biyagama had 6938 who had returned to work in 35 factories, Seethawaka had 18 factories where 4092 had returned to work, Habarana had 865 employees who had returned to work in 17 factories Pallelekelle had 2689 who had returned to work in 20 factories. Meanwhile, Wathupitiwela had 10 factories, Mawathagama had 4 factories and Malwathuhiripitiwela had 6 factories.
