Excerpts of the letter titled, ‘Recent Fuel Shortage in the Country’

“The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) the national body for Supply Chain education and training in Sri Lanka has been in operation since its establishment in 1972. It is a well-known nonprofit making National Organization which was incorporated by Act of Parliament No. 3 of 1981.

ISMM is affiliated to the International Federation of Purchasing and Supply Management (IFPSM) the world body encompassing 45 National Associations worldwide and is also affiliated to several other foreign and local institutions.

We are well versed in Supply Chain Management and conduct classes leading up to a three year Diploma which is equivalent to a Degree as per circular No. 46/90 (i) of 20th June 1993 issued by the Ministry of Public Administration. ISMM have produced approximately 12,000 personnel in the supply chain field to the Government, Corporations, Private Sector including the three Forces and the Police. We have also been providing consultancy services to leading private and public sector institutions such the National Water Supply and Drainage Board, Sri Lanka Police. Sri Lanka Navy etc.

As a National Body we feel it is our duty to offer our services to provide practical Supply Chain Management solutions to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in their hour of need.

If proper Supply Chain methods were in place there would not have been a fuel shortage as faced by the country recently. As you probably know we have expertise and qualified personnel to provide a useful plan for the consideration of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation and the Government.

We therefore wish to offer our services so that a similar situation in the future could be averted.
