Sri Lanka among world’s hot tourist destinations

Three leading media houses have included Sri Lanka as one of the top ten places to visit in 2017.

The Vogue has said that Sri Lanka is a hot spot to travel in 2017 and the Mirror newspaper in UK has said that Sri Lanka is among the top 10 most amazing places to visit in 2017.

Bloomberg in USA has also included Sri Lanka in their top 20 places to visit in 2017 also giving hotel rates and best times to visit.

The Vogue states; In 2017, we'll see hot spots like Sri Lanka, Colombia, and Oman remain popular, but travellers will venture off the beaten path, beyond each country's tried-and-true holiday escapes. Remote parts of the world will become more accessible than ever, thanks to new heli-skiing operations in the mountains of Georgia and a new walking trail that crosses the length of Jordan.

Malaysia's beaches are primed to become the new alternative to island getaways in Vietnam and Thailand, and there's a Caribbean destination with just as much culture as Cuba, minus the crowds. You'll want to get your passport ready to experience a fresh take on the African safari in Madagascar and the new capital of Nordic cool in Europe, and for something close to home, there's a U.S. mountain town you'll want to experience now, before the secret's out.

This is the review by Vogue on Sri Lanka.

We've been calling Sri Lanka the next It destination for the past five years, however, tourists have always flocked to the coast (and with good reason). Sun and surf will remain a big draw, especially with new beach retreats, like the recently opened KK Beach on the south coast near Galle. But in 2017, we'll also see Sri Lanka emerge as the next hot wellness escape, ranking up there with India, California, and Thailand, thanks to forward-thinking retreats like Santani and Tri. The country's wildlife and interiors will also become a draw, particularly when Resplendent Ceylon's Wild Coast Tented Lodge opens at the edge of Yala National Park next October.

The other nine destinations are Georgia, Oman, Langkawi in Malaysia, Madagascar, Trinidad and Tobago, Idaho, Jordan, Denmark and Colombia.

The Bloomberg has identified top 20 destinations and in its review on Sri Lanka states...

Leopards are some of the toughest cats to spot on an African safari; in Sri Lanka's Yala National Park, their abundance practically guarantees daily encounters. And that's only one reason to go. Add to the list ruins that rival Angkor Wat and opportunities to see humpback and blue whales off the country's southern coast, and you'll wonder why so few tourists have caught on.

Chalk up Sri Lanka's short immigration queues to its lack of luxury hotel options, a void that Malik Fernando, founder and owner of Resplendent Ceylon, is hurrying to fill. Already, his first two properties have earned Relais & Chateaux distinction, one is on an old tea plantation in the highlands and the other is built on a jungle-shrouded cliff facing the Indian Ocean.

His third project, Wild Coast Tented Lodge, opens this October, with 28 cocoon-like tents on a private beach near leopard-filled Yala; two additional hotels are on the way. It's the luxury travel circuit you didn't know you were waiting for.

The UK Mirror in its early publication in January, states that Sri Lanka is an exciting place to go. It had even given a deal via Thomson Holidays which has seven night on B&B at the three star Goldi Sands hotel in Negombo from 841pp based on two sharing and departing from Gatwick on February 6.

It also suggests seeing the masses of elephants in Uda Walawe national park and walking the ramparts of Galle's mighty coastal fortress. Mirror has picked Montenegro, Myanmar, Finland, North Wales, South Africa, Scotland, Canada, Oman and Chile as the other nine destinations to visit in 2017.
